According to the mathematics assessment syllabus of the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority (HKEAA), Core's public examination consists of two papers, which together constitute the overall score of the subject:

Extended Modules: The actual difference between M1 and M2

Extended Modules can only take one unit of its Form. The examination format for both units is the same: only one test paper, the test time is 2 hours and 30 minutes, the full score is 100 points, and it is divided into short questions in Part A and long questions in Part B. All questions must be answered.

IB Mathematics: The difference between AA and AI, HL and SL

The current IB Diploma mathematics is divided into two subjects:Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches (AA) and Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation (AI), each subject has two levels: HL and SL. The recommended teaching hours are 150 hours for SL and 240 hours for HL; the internal assessment Mathematical Exploration (IA, a mathematical exploration report of approximately 12 to 20 pages) in both subjects and levels will each count for 20% of the final grade.

In terms of subject selection, AA focuses on the analysis skills of algebraic deduction, functions and calculus, and is suitable for studying engineering, mathematics, physics or quantitative economics in the future; AI focuses on statistics, modelling and the application of technology, and is suitable for design, social sciences and business analysis. IA topic selection is often the position that opens up the level - the topics are too big to complete, too detailed and not mathematically deep enough. IGCSE and Edexcel IAL Mathematics

IGCSE Mathematics is generally taken at the Form 3 to Form 4 stage, and is the branching point before IB or A-Level. Taking Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A (4MA1) as an example, the course is divided into two levels: Foundation and Higher, using a 9 to 1 rating: Foundation can take grades 5 to 1, and Higher can take grades 9 to 4 (an additional grade 3 is set as the allowed grade). Each of the two papers is 2 hours long and each accounts for 50%. Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics (0580) is divided into two levels: Core and Extended. Extended covers deeper algebra and function content. Level selection will directly seal the upper limit of grades, so it is advisable to evaluate as early as possible.

Edexcel International A Level Mathematics is a unit system. The entire IAL consists of six units: Pure Mathematics P1 to P4 are compulsory core units, plus two application units, which can be chosen from Mechanics (M1, M2), Statistics (S1, S2) or Decision Mathematics (D1); IAS (AS level) is P1, P2 plus an application unit. The most common combination in practice is P1–P4 with M1 and S1. Note that the old C1 to C4 have been replaced by P1 to P4, please be clear when searching for old data. Common Difficulties in Learning Mathematics

The specific solution from "clearly knowing what to do but miscalculating" to "not finishing the exam"

Decline in maths results is usually not due to "lack of diligence"

The most common reason for declining grades is that gaps in pre-requisite concepts are covered up by new topics. For example, poor performance in quadratic functions often comes from factoring and perfect squares; failure in trigonometry often comes from proportions and similar triangles. Therefore, our solution is to first diagnose the gap location and then backtrack to fill the hole, rather than redouble practice on the current topic. Error counting and step separation loss

The long questions in the public examination will be scored according to the reasoning steps. Points will be deducted for skipping steps, missing units, and incorrect rounding timing without affecting the "right or wrong answer." We require students to establish fixed writing formats and calculation habits, and use an error book to track the repetition rate of each type of error. Can't finish exams, time allocation is out of control

There are only 75 minutes for the 45 questions in Paper 2, with an average of less than 100 seconds per question; the 105 points in Paper 1 require 135 minutes to complete and write down all the steps. Is it too late to start tuition for Form 3 or Form 4?

It’s not too late, but the tuition strategy needs to change: when time is limited, gap diagnosis must be done first and focus on high-frequency and high-scoring topics instead of rereading in order from the beginning. If the foundation gap is large, it is recommended to report first Mathematics supplementary courses, and then transition to DSE courses.

What should you do during the summer vacation?
